Basic Editing Operations

Undoing

The Undo command reverses your last action, restoring the document to its previous state. This is useful if you made a mistake and want to revert to the previous step.

  • Perform any action you want to undo, such as typing text into a cell;
  • On the toolbar, click the Undo icon (a left-pointing arrow);
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Z (Windows) or ⌘ + Z (Mac).

You can also go to the Edit menu and select Undo.

Redoing

The Redo command reinstates an action you just undid with the Undo command.

  • Perform any action, then undo it using Undo;
  • On the toolbar, click the Redo icon (a right-pointing arrow);
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Y (Windows) or ⌘ + Y (Mac).

You can also go to the Edit menu and select Redo.

Copying

The Copy command copies data from the selected cell or range to the clipboard without removing it from the original location.

  • Select the cell or range of cells you want to copy;
  • In the Edit menu, select Copy;
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C (Windows) or ⌘ + C (Mac).

Cutting

The Cut command removes selected data from the cell and places it in the clipboard for pasting elsewhere.

  • Select the cell or range containing the data you want to cut;
  • In the Edit menu, select Cut;
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + X (Windows) or ⌘ + X (Mac).

Pasting

The Paste command inserts data from the clipboard into the selected cell or range.

  • First, perform a Cut or Copy action;
  • Go to the cell where you want to paste the data;
  • In the Edit menu, select Paste;
  • Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ + V (Mac).
