Protecting Sheets and Ranges
In this chapter we will explore the topic of Protecting Sheets and Ranges. This feature allows you to restrict access to specific parts of a document or protect entire sheets from changes. It helps maintain control over data and prevents accidental or unauthorized edits.
Protecting Sheets
- Select the range of cells you want to protect;
- Go to Data → Protect sheets and ranges;
- A settings panel will appear on the right side of the screen. Enter a description for the protection to make it easier to identify later;
- Click Set permissions to configure who can edit the selected range;
- In the permissions menu, choose who will have editing access:
- Only you — only you can edit this range;
- Custom — set specific permissions for other users;
- Click Done to save the changes.
Protecting Ranges
- To protect an entire sheet, go to Data → Protect sheets and ranges;
- In the Sheet section, select the sheet you want to protect;
- Click Set permissions and configure who can edit the sheet;
- You can also specify exceptions, allowing edits to certain ranges within the protected sheet;
- Click Done to enable protection.
Removing Protection
- To remove protection, go to Data → Protect sheets and ranges;
- In the right-hand panel, select an existing protection rule;
- Click the trash icon to delete the protection or modify the permissions.
