Inserting Internal and External Hyperlinks

Adding Internal Links

Adding internal links allows you to link cells or ranges within the same document for easy navigation.

  • Select the cell where you want to insert the internal link;
  • Go to the Insert menu → Link or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac);
  • In the window that opens, in the Link field, enter the address of the cell or range on another sheet using the format:
    SheetName!CellReference, for example, Sheet2!A1.
    If the sheet name contains spaces, use quotes: ’Internal Link Source’!A1;
  • In the Text field, enter the text that will be displayed in the cell (if needed);
  • Click Apply to add the link.
  • You can also select a cell or range by clicking Sheets and named ranges and then choosing the needed cells.

You can insert a link to cell A2 on the Inserting Internal Hyperlinks sheet so that when you click the text, it takes you directly to cell A2 on the Internal Link Source sheet.

Adding External Links

Adding external links allows you to create a link to resources outside the document, such as other documents or websites.

  • Select the cell where you want to insert the external link;
  • Go to the Insert menu → Link or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + K (Windows) or Cmd + K (Mac);
  • In the window that opens, in the Link field, enter the URL of the external site or document:
  • In the Text field, enter the text that will be displayed in the cell (if needed);
  • Click Apply to add the link.

When you click the link text, you will be able to visit the specified website or document located outside of the current spreadsheet.
