Pie Chart

  • Select the range of data you want to display on the chart;
  • Click InsertChart;
  • In the Chart editor window, go to the Chart type section and select Pie chart;
  • Ensure that the correct data range is specified in the Data range section.

Example Usage

Open our dataset on book sales. We want to visualize the contribution of each author to total sales.

  • Select the data range C1:D101, which includes headers and data.
  • Click InsertChart;
  • In the Chart editor, select Pie chart;
  • The table contains multiple entries for some authors, such as Rowling, J.K.. To avoid duplicates, aggregate the data by summing total sales for each author. Click Aggregate in the Setup tab;
  • Ensure that the correct data range is selected for authors and their aggregated sales.

Reading Chart

Each slice of the pie represents an author, with the size of the slice showing their share of total sales.

Analyzing Results

The chart analysis reveals that J.K. Rowling dominates with 19% of total sales, followed by Dan Brown at approximately 9.7%. Other authors, such as E.L. James and Stephenie Meyer, have smaller shares, highlighting the disparity between top authors and the rest. Notably, classic works by authors like Harper Lee and J.R.R. Tolkien maintain popularity, albeit with smaller shares, reflecting the diversity of reader preferences.
