Using Slicers
In this chapter we will cover the topic Using Slicers. You will learn how to use this tool to apply interactive filters that help efficiently filter data in a table without changing the original information. This is especially useful when working with large datasets and creating visual reports for analysis.
Adding a Slicer
- Go to Data → Add a slicer;
- A blank slicer box will appear on your sheet;
- In the Column section, select the column you want to filter by (e.g., Num Bedrooms).
Configuring Slicer
Configuring a slicer allows you to set filter parameters for easy display of the required data.
- Click the 3 horizontal lines on the left side of the slicer;
- In the Filter by values section, choose the values you want to filter (e.g., select only houses with 3 or more bedrooms);
- You can also use Filter by condition to set more specific filtering criteria (e.g., choose houses built after 2000).
Example of Use
Open our table with real estate data.
- Filter by year built:
- Add another slicer for the Year Built column;
- Set the filter to select values 2000 and above.
Now, only houses built after 2000 will be visible.
- Filter by neighborhood quality:
- Add a slicer for the Neighborhood Quality column;
- Set the filter to select values 7 and above.
Now, only houses in high-quality neighborhoods (7 and above) will be displayed.
