Find and Replace
In this chapter we will cover the topic of Find and Replace. This tool allows you to efficiently find and replace data in your spreadsheet. It is especially useful when you need to make mass changes to data or find specific information within a large dataset. Instead of spending time manually searching and replacing each value, you can use this tool to automate the process.
Applying Find and Replace
- Go to Edit → Find and replace;
- In the window that appears, enter the value you want to find in the Find field;
- In the Replace with field, enter the value you want to replace the found data with.
Setting Search Parameters
- You can specify the search area:
- All sheets — to search across all sheets in the spreadsheet;
- This sheet — to search only within the current sheet;
- Options:
- Match case — considers letter case (for example, Airline and airline will be considered different);
- Match entire cell contents — will search only for cells that exactly match the search value;
- Click Find to search for values one by one;
- Click Replace to replace the found value, or Replace all to replace all found values at once.
Example of Use
Open our spreadsheet with airline ratings data.
- Replacing values in the Verified column:
Suppose you want to replace all FALSE values in the Verified column with NO;- Go to Edit → Find and replace;
- In the Find field, enter FALSE;
- In the Replace with field, enter NO;
- Select the This sheet option and click Replace all;
- Now all FALSE values in the Verified column will be replaced with NO;
- Searching for reviews with specific phrases:
If you need to find all reviews that contain the word delay in the Review Title column, do the following:
- In the Review Title column, highlight the range of data;
- Go to Edit → Find and replace;
- In the Find field, enter delay and click Find to see all rows containing this word.
