Discrete vs Continuous Random Variable
Discrete random variable: Discrete variables can take a finite number of distinct values. It is used when we can count events and take only a countable number of distinct values like 0,1,2,3...
Examples:
- The number of students present at the lesson.
- The number of children in a family.
- The number of red balls in the box.
- ...
Continuous random variable:
A continuous random variable is used when the data can take an infinite amount of values.
Examples:
- One's temperature on a random day.
- One's age in years.
- Distance.
- ...
