Overview of Component Lifecycle
The lifecycle of a React component refers to the series of methods that are called during the creation and destruction of a component.
Here is an overview of the lifecycle of a React component!
Mounting
When a component is first created and inserted into the DOM, the following lifecycle methods are called in the following order:
- constructor: The constructor is called before the component is mounted. It is used to initialize state and bind event handlers.
- getDerivedStateFromProps: This static method is called before the render method, and can be used to update the state of the component based on its props.
- render: The render method is called to generate the JSX that will be rendered to the DOM.
- componentDidMount: This method is called after the component is mounted, and can be used to perform any additional setup that is needed after the component has been rendered to the DOM.
Updating
When a component's props or state change, the following lifecycle methods are called in the following order:
- getDerivedStateFromProps: This static method is called before the render method, and can be used to update the state of the component based on its props.
- shouldComponentUpdate: This method is called before the render method, and can be used to optimize performance by avoiding unnecessary re-renders.
- render: The render method is called to generate the JSX that will be rendered to the DOM.
- getSnapshotBeforeUpdate: This method is called before the DOM updates are made, and can be used to capture any information that might be useful after the update is complete.
- componentDidUpdate: This method is called after the component's updates are made to the DOM, and can be used to perform any additional updates or cleanup that is needed after the update is complete.
Unmounting
When a component is removed from the DOM, the following lifecycle method is called:
- componentWillUnmount: This method is called just before the component is unmounted, and can be used to perform any cleanup or teardown that is needed before the component is destroyed.
It's important to note that not all of these lifecycle methods are used in every component, and the exact behavior of these methods may vary depending on the needs of the component.
