Placing Photos and Videos
To add an image, you can either:
- Click on the Figma Icon → File → Place Image;
- Use toolbar and select it from the Shapes tool group → Place Image;
- Use the shortcut: Ctrl/Command + Shift + K;
To place an image in Figma, hover over a shape and click to fill the shape with the image. You can also place it on text, drag to position manually, or click to place the entire image, but you may need to scale it down. To crop or adjust an image, double-click while holding Alt/Option or use the Design Panel → Fill → Image Fill options.
Adjust scaling options:
- Fill: image fills the shape;
- Fit: image fits inside the shape;
- Crop: adjust image dimensions;
- Tile: repeats the image in a grid layout.
To copy an image in Figma, right-click and select → Copy/Paste as → Copy Properties or Paste Properties to transfer attributes between shapes. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl/Command + C to copy and Ctrl/Command + V to paste.
You can also modify the fill settings by:
- Adjusting image opacity for a faded look;
- Changing or hiding any fill color/image;
- Removing any fill by clicking the minus icon.
Placing videos in Figma follows a similar process to images, but videos can only be added with paid plans. Once added, you can preview video thumbnails in the Fill settings under the Design Panel. For full playback, switch to Presentation Mode by clicking the "Present" icon in the top-right corner. If you need to download the original files (photos or videos), go into Dev Mode (available only with paid plans), select the object, and navigate to the Inspect Panel. Under the Assets Section, you'll find the Download/Export Button.
