When collaborating in Excel, you may want to prevent others from changing the structure of your workbook. Protecting the workbook structure stops users from adding, deleting, hiding, unhiding, or renaming worksheets. This is especially important when you need to maintain a consistent layout or prevent accidental changes to the file’s organization.

To protect the structure of your workbook, go to the "Review" tab and choose "Protect Workbook." In the dialog box, select "Structure." You can set a password if you want only authorized users to remove the protection. Once enabled, users will not be able to make structural changes, though they can still edit the content of unlocked cells if sheet protection is not also applied.

To remove workbook structure protection, return to the "Review" tab and click Unprotect Workbook. If a password was set during protection, you will need to enter it. Once unprotected, users can again modify the workbook’s structure as needed.
