Selecting and Installing Astra

A WordPress theme controls the visual appearance and layout of your website. It defines how pages are structured, which fonts and colors are used, and how elements like menus and buttons look. Since we're using the Block Editor (Gutenberg) in this course, it's important to choose a theme that is fully compatible with blocks to get the best experience. For this project, we'll be using Astra, a lightweight, flexible, and highly customizable theme that works seamlessly with Gutenberg.

Why Are We Using Astra?

WordPress offers thousands of free and premium themes, but we've chosen Astra because:

  • It's optimized for the Block Editor – meaning it's fully compatible with Gutenberg and ensures a smooth editing experience;

  • It's lightweight and fast, which helps websites load quickly;

  • It comes with free Starter Templates, allowing us to import a pre-designed website and customize it without coding;

  • It provides flexibility, making it great for both beginners and advanced users.
