Typographic Hierarchy

Font/Typographic Hierarchy is a crucial aspect of UI/UX design that organizes text into styles (e.g., headings and body) for better readability and structure. Most designs use 1–6 heading styles and several body text variations.

You can use Typescale site to determine the ideal font hierarchy.

  • Input a base size (usually 14px or 16px for body text);
  • Select a scale (font scaling ratio) such as Minor Third (1.2), Major Third (1.25), or Golden Ratio for larger fonts.
  • Customize settings like font name, weight, line spacing, letter spacing, and color;
  • Copy the values of the Headings and the Body text into Figma or modify them as needed while maintaining the scale ratio. You can multiply or divide the font size by the selected scale ratio to create consistent heading or body text sizes;
  • While the scale ratio provides consistency, you can adjust settings based on your design’s requirements.
