What Is Backend Development and Why It Matters

Backend development is about building the part of the application that controls how everything works.

In practice, backend developers build things like APIs, which allow the frontend to communicate with the server. They work with data by saving it, updating it, and retrieving it from a database. They also implement business logic for example, checking if a password is correct, preventing duplicate accounts, or calculating results.

This matters because without the backend, a website would only display static content. There would be no user accounts, no saved data, no personalization, and no real functionality.
