Entering Data

Welcome to the next chapter. This is where the fun begins. You will now test Excel yourself and finally be able to enter some data and understand how to prepare your worksheet for more advanced topics!
For this chapter, let's move to the Worksheet Area (point number 5 of the previous chapter) and select a random cell.
Once the cell is selected, let's try the following:
- If you want to enter text, such as names, labels, or descriptions, click on the cell and start typing. As you type, your text will appear in both the cell and the formula bar;
- To enter numeric data, follow the same process as entering text. Click on the cell and start typing the numbers. Excel will recognize numbers, including decimals, automatically;
- To enter dates or times, click on the cell and start typing the date or time in a recognizable format. Excel will often recognize and format dates and times for you.
Go ahead and try inserting some data with the 3 different formats specified above.
Note that there won't be any restrictions from Excel. You can insert different types of data within the same column. Of course, problems will arise if you try to apply non-logical functions to columns with different data types. But hey, what the hell are functions? We will talk about that later on 🙂
