Drafting Emails Without Leaving Your Inbox

Most modern email apps now include an AI writing tool directly in the compose window. In Gmail, this is called Help me write.

Instead of typing a full email, you describe what you want in one line:

Decline the meeting on Friday politely, and suggest a 30-minute call next week instead.

The tool generates a full draft in a few seconds. From there, you can refine it further using built-in options like Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten, or Polish, without writing a new prompt each time.

Inside an existing thread, the same tool can read the conversation and draft a reply that references what was already said, instead of starting from a blank message.

Keeping Documents Consistent as You Write

Google Docs includes a similar assistant, built into a side panel next to your document.

Help me create takes a short description of what you want, such as a report or a newsletter, and produces a fully formatted first draft, often pulling relevant details from your Drive, Gmail, and Chat automatically.

Two other tools solve a common problem, keeping a document consistent once multiple people have edited it:

• Match writing style rewrites a document so the tone sounds consistent throughout, even after several contributors have edited it;
• Match doc format applies the structure of one document, like a template, to another. The AI can also read comments left by collaborators, summarize a long comment thread into its key points, and draft a reply or an edit based on that feedback. It never applies a change on its own — you always review and accept it first.

Task

Open a real email you need to send, and use your email app's built-in AI writing tool to draft it from a one-line prompt. Then open a document you have been editing with others, and try the tool that matches its writing style or format.
