Introduction to Add-ons

Add-ons are extra tools or features that can be added to Blender to enhance its functionality.

Built-in Add-ons

Some add-ons come pre-installed with Blender. To use them, enable them from the Add-ons section in Blender’s preferences.

Third-party Add-ons

Many add-ons are created by the Blender community and can be found online. These add-ons can be managed through the Add-ons section in Blender’s preferences. Users can search, install, enable, and disable add-ons.

Example Add-on: Blenderkit

The Blenderkit add-on makes it easy to import Blender assets like models, materials, brushes, and HDRI seamlessly into the 3D viewport.

Installing an Add-on

Download the add-on from the Blenderkit website. Create a Blenderkit account if necessary. Once downloaded, do not extract the Zip file as this is what Blender will install.

Go to the Add-ons menu under preferences and click the import button.

Locate the saved addon and select it. Confirm ‘Install Addon’.

Search for the addon and ensure it is checked.

The addon will now appear in the properties menu, accessible with the hotkey ‘N’.

Once installed, seamlessly download assets like models, materials, and whole scenes directly into the viewport.
