Agent Limits and Strengths

Sveip for å vise menyen

Agents are powerful. They are also not magic. If you expect a tireless digital employee that handles everything perfectly, you are going to get burned. But if you understand where agents are strong and where they still fail, you can get value from them quickly.

Where agents are great today:

  • Repetitive research. Looking up the same kind of information across many items, for example, finding the LinkedIn URL for each of 50 people.

  • Summarizing across sources. Reading a lot of material and pulling out what matters.

  • Drafting. Emails, documents, summaries, replies. The agent does 80%, and you fix the last 20%.

  • Bridging apps. Taking information from one place and putting it somewhere else. This is where connectors shine.

  • Watching for changes. Keeping an eye on a webpage, an inbox, or a feed, then pinging you when something changes.

Where agents still struggle:

  • Anything requiring judgment about people. Hiring, firing, sensitive replies, legal calls. Do not outsource this.

  • Tasks where being wrong is expensive. Sending money, signing contracts, deleting things. Always keep a human in the loop.

  • Long, multi-day projects. Agents can lose the plot when a task requires holding a lot of state for a long time. Break big jobs into smaller ones.

  • Sites with heavy security or unusual interfaces. Banks, government portals, Captchas. Agents will often get stuck.

  • Knowing what they do not know. Agents can confidently do the wrong thing. Always check the first few runs of a new workflow.

The right mindset is to treat your agent like a brand-new intern: smart, eager, and fast, but still new to your specific world.

You would not give a new intern your bank login on day one. You would give them small tasks, review the output, and expand their responsibilities as trust builds. The same idea applies here.

The students who get the most out of this course are the ones who lean into the strengths and design around the weaknesses. The ones who try to force agents to do things they are bad at usually end up frustrated and go back to doing the work themselves.
