API Keys and Credentials

A credential is a piece of information that proves you have authorised access to a system or service. An API key is a type of credential, a unique string of characters used to authenticate requests and allow one application to securely communicate with another.
Think of an API key as a password that one service uses to confirm your identity to another service. Unlike a regular login, it does not expire every time you close a browser. It stays active until you manually revoke or regenerate it.
Do not share them publicly, do not paste them into screenshots, and do not store them in plain text documents shared with others.
To create your Anthropic API key, follow these steps:
- Go to Anthropic Console and sign in or create an account;
- Navigate to API Keys in the left menu under Manage;
- Click Create Key, give it a clear name and click Add;
- Copy the key immediately, Anthropic will not show it again;
- Store it in a secure note or password manager right away.
Relevant services are introduced as needed, along with instructions for generating API keys. The process is always the same:
- Sign in to the service;
- Navigate to Settings or API in the dashboard;
- Create a new key, give it a clear name and copy it immediately;
- Store it securely.
API usage is charged per token, roughly corresponding to the amount of input and output text. For typical tasks, costs are very low, often just a few cents per run. You will need to add a payment method, and you can set a monthly spending limit to avoid unexpected charges.
