Turning Briefs into Documents

A brief aligns. An expanded actionable document gives people the detail they need to actually do the work. Same project, same source material, larger shape. We connect Google Drive, generate the expanded document, review it in chat, then push it directly into a Google Doc with the link ready to share. This chapter also surfaces an honest lesson about working with Claude: sometimes it makes a wrong choice (in our walkthrough, it saved an HTML file instead of a native Google Doc), and the fix is to be more specific about what you actually wanted. Specificity in prompting is a skill that compounds across every chapter from here on.
Work with Claude to design the document before generating it. Discuss the audience, required sections, and overall format until the structure fits your workflow.
Ask Claude to request clarification when needed. A simple phrase like "feel free to ask clarifying questions" usually leads to more accurate results.
Ask Claude to connect your Google Drive account, complete the authorization process, and return to the chat.
Have Claude display the full document in chat first. Verify the content, timeline, and task assignments before creating the final file.
Once satisfied, ask Claude to generate a native Google Doc and provide a shareable link. Be explicit about the output format.
If something goes wrong, capture a screenshot and paste it into the chat. Claude can often identify the issue and suggest a solution.
