Gradients and Patterns

1. Gradient Tool

The gradient tool is essential for creating visually appealing designs, offering multiple modes and shapes that cater to different artistic needs. Let's discover more about it.

  • The shortcut for the gradient tool is the letter "G" on the keyboard;
  • There are five shapes of Gradients: Linear, Radial, Angle, Reflected, and Diamond;
  • To apply the gradient, just click and drag to apply the gradient. You can adjust the color stops to control the transition between colors;
  • You can either use the properties panel for detailed adjustments or double-click on the gradient fill layer icon in the layers panel to open the Gradient Editor for more options.

Remember, you can always copy layers or layers masks by holding Alt (Windows) or Option (MacOS) and dragging the layer/layer mask.

2. Patterns

  • When selecting a pattern, you can adjust how the pattern looks. You can adjust its angle, rotation, and scale;
  • Patterns can also be imported, exported, deleted or organized via the "Patterns" window.;
  • To change the pattern, go to "Window" > "Patterns," and you can drag a new pattern over the adjustment layer;
  • When you're creating a pattern and you want to see how the pattern tiles, just enable "Pattern Preview" from the "View" menu; When satisfied, disable "Pattern Preview," then go to "Edit" > "Define Pattern," give it a name, and save it;
  • To create a pattern from an image, select an image layer and go to "Edit" > "Define Pattern" to save it as a pattern. Same thing as before.
