OSI Model Review
Understanding the OSI Model
The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Model is a 7-layer framework that standardizes how data is transmitted across networks. Each layer plays a unique role, ensuring smooth communication between devices. By defining specific functions at each layer, the OSI Model helps in designing, managing, and troubleshooting network systems efficiently.
When accessing a website, your request starts at the Application Layer (Layer 7) with your web browser. The data is then encrypted at the Presentation Layer, managed through a session by the Session Layer, broken into packets at the Transport Layer, and routed across the internet by the Network Layer. Finally, the data travels through cables or wireless signals managed by the Physical Layer.
Smooth communication is crucial for online games. The Transport Layer ensures data packets are delivered without loss, while the Data Link Layer handles error correction to maintain uninterrupted gameplay.
