Introduction to the Web
What is the Internet?
How does the Web work?
The World Wide Web (WWW or simply the web) is a subset of the Internet. It is a system of interconnected documents and resources linked together by hyperlinks and URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). The web operates based on a client-server model:
Clients
These are devices such as computers, smartphones, or tablets used by individuals to access information on the web. Web browsers (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari) are applications installed on clients that interpret and display web content.
Servers
These are computers that store and serve web content to clients upon request. Websites are hosted on servers which are connected to the Internet and accessible to users worldwide. When a user requests a web page by entering a URL or clicking on a link, the client sends a request to the server, then the server responds with the requested content to the client's browser.
