
**HTML** is at the core of every browsable website. Every site that includes this one has its backbone made out of HTML. It is the skeleton that holds together a website's functionality and design. The main goal of HTML is to make webpages traversable like a tree where every piece of content is wrapped in its meaningful container. Let's take a look at how the HTML of a popular website is structured. 

  - Go to the <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page' target = '_blank'>Wikipedia Home Page</a> in any browser;
  - Right-click on the page, and a menu will appear;
  - Click on `Inspect` in the menu, and the browser should look like *Fig 1*. (Chrome is used in the screenshot);
  - As you can see on the right-hand side, there is lots of HTML code, and everything is encapsulated in it;
  - Now hit `Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + C` from the keyboard. Now you can hover over any page part and view the HTML as in *Fig 2*.

In this course, participants will learn the basics of HTML, what HTML is and how it is used to create web pages, the structure of an HTML document and the various tags used to define the content and layout of a web page, how to use HTML tags to structure and format content, such as headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, and more, how to create links, add images and videos, and create forms for user input. 

The main goal of HTML is to make webpages traversable like a tree where every piece of content is wrapped in its meaningful container. 

Now that we have gone over the basic understanding of HTML documents, the mandatory structure they should have, and how tags and attributes work. We will move on to some important elements used in a typical HTML page.

Now that we have gone over the basics of HTML about commonly used elements and how the attributes are used. We will now move on to another important part of an HTML document that isn't mostly displayed on the web page but is a metadata container, which is the head tag.   

By the end of this section, participants will have a solid understanding of these HTML concepts and be able to apply them to create well-structured and formatted web pages.

So now that we have a good grip on most of the basic topics of HTML along with familiarity with basic text elements, now, we will move on to somewhat advanced topics which cover things necessary for developing any starter web page, be it a portfolio or a full-fledged e-commerce store.
