Excel Data Entry

Swipe to show menu

Efficient data entry is crucial for using Excel effectively. While basic text and number entries are straightforward, Excel's powerful features like AutoFill and Flash Fill save time by automating data patterns and extending series like numbers or dates.

Note
Note

AutoFill may work unexpectedly, especially with dates—it can increment months or years instead of days. To ensure it follows your desired pattern, manually enter the first two dates (e.g., 01/01/2024, 01/02/2024 for daily increments). Then, select both cells and drag the AutoFill handle to apply the correct sequence. This method helps Excel recognize the intended pattern and prevents unwanted changes in months or years.

Populate the worksheet using Excel's Autofill and Flash Fill features:

  1. In cell H7, type January and press Enter.
  2. In cell O7, enter the date 12/01/2024.
  3. Use Autofill to fill the remaining months of the year by dragging the fill handle from H7 down to H18.
  4. Use Autofill to generate a sequence of dates by dragging the fill handle from O7 down to O18.
  5. Use Flash Fill to populate the values in Q7:Q18.
  6. Use Flash Fill to populate the values in R7:R18.
